Some Apron Goddesses Wear Lots of Shoes.

Sorry to disappoint the eager Apron Goddesses in Blogland this morning, as I have delayed the newest giveaway until tomorrow. Never fear, a gorgeous apron will be up for grabs on Tuesday.

However in the meanwhile I have this sassy little Apron Goddess who is showing her simple but poignant apron. This is Little Miss Baker, and if you can't read her apron it says, "Will Cook for Shoes."

LMB runs a cute little website called Pink Sugar Desserts! If you visit you will be rewarded with photos of the cupcakes she creates, her baking tips, secret recipes, decorating, and much more. For the dessert minded Pink Sugar Desserts is a must see. And if you are like me and want to minimize calories you can just drool on your computer screen.

LMB wrote, "OK, I have attached a picture of me in my apron. It's not very fancy or colorful but I usually get this thing COVERED in batter and frosting that it's probably a good thing that it's brown. It says Will Cook for Shoes on the front and was a gift from my mom about 3 years ago. It's made from a Canadian Designer (I am Canadian so I love that!) and the whole reason behind picking this apron is I have an equal passion for shoes that I do for baking. I have over 50 pairs of shoes, some I haven't even worn and some I just can't give away!

LMB explained regarding her shoes, "I am only 5 feet tall so maybe having tall shoes makes me feel more glamorous! Either way sometimes I bake in my heels because it gives me a better view of what I am mixing in my bowls :) Here is an attached picture of my "Chicago" shoes. Since I live in Burlington Ontario but commute every other month to visit my fiancée in Chicago, I have about 20 pairs of shoes in Canada and the rest back here in Chicago. I couldn't possibly travel with ALL of my baking supplies AND all my shoes could I?"

You want to know a little secret?

I cried every time Charlie and the Chocolate Factory came on TV when I was a little girl. It scared the crap out of me. Between the worms in the tunnel and Augustus Gloop being sucked up the chocolate pipe I was in tears. By the time Violet got rolled away as the human blueberry to be squeezed back to normal I was almost in hysterics.

Childhood memories....such fun.

I was such a sensitive child. I still can't stand scary movies. Some things never change.

Didn't Charlie and the Chocolate Factory freak you out too?? Come now, I know there must be a few of you out there.

If Only...

If only this was a reality in my house.

If only my dear loving, hubby forced me out of the kitchen so that he could manage the mess.

If only he wore an apron in order to do the dishes, sweep the floor, do the laundry, prepare a meal, and.....the list goes on.

If only he still manned the barbecue.

If only he would go to the grocery to buy more than an item or 2.

If only he still ran the vacuum, even if it was occasionally.

If only he took charge of the kids and the evening ritual of bathing, tooth brushing, story reading, and tucking in.

If only he'd bring me breakfast in bed.

If only he would run to Starbuck's on my special day (Mother's Day, Birthday) to get me a much loved and desired mocha.

If only this was not a dream and fantasy of mine.

How many of you are lucky enough to have a hubby who is more than willing to help out with the house hold chores?

Mine likes to mention what needs to be done as he sits down for some television pleasure as I toil about getting "things" done.

Fouth of July Aprons

Eclectic Pink Rose is an Apron Goddess

Apron Goddesses, say Hello to Teresa! She is the host of Eclectic Pink Rose. In her bloggy land abode she shares her hobbies and interests with us expressing her love of pink, flowers, anything shabby chic, and everything girly. She is one crafty woman who enjoys sewing.

Ms. Teresa even makes things in good fashion to lighten her carbon foot print, cause she's "green like that."

She made a stylin' lunch sack to replace the dreary brown paper bag with which she was so accustomed. You have to check it out, it is adorable and if you want to try your hand sewing your own "going green" bag you can find the tutorial over at Sewing Notions.

In this picture (doesn't she look super sassy?) Teresa is donning an apron she crafted herself. Give that Goddess a hand, she did an amazing job. It almost looks like a dress with what appear to be pearl buttons down the front. Very cute indeed!

Teresa says "I love this apron because it is one of the first ones I ever made, it is so whimsical and fun. This apron started me down my road to apron obsession. I love making aprons so much that I have started an apron wall in my kitchen. I have made them for me and my girls. I have even re-purposed vintage pillow cases into lovely aprons. I adore aprons especially the frilly, ruffly, girly ones, they are just so fun. My girlies and I cannot cook or bake with out grabbing an apron off the apron wall, that's part of the fun!"

An Old Time Apron Goddess

Meet Mary Morris, she ran a shop in Manchester (UK). This woman is the Great Great Aunt of Jane over at Jane's Aprons and Memories.

Jane is fairly new to the blogging world and I would like to be one of the first to welcome her to this crazy place where we can connect and make friends. She likes to share her memories as a child and does it in a storylike way. I personally like Memories of The Ice Cream Van. It brings back memories I have of the ice cream van as a child. So go see Jane and welcome her to bloggy land.

Jane says "I thought that the goddesses would like to see an old family photo which I found. It is of my great-great aunt, Mary Morris who ran a shop in Manchester (UK) and I think it was taken around 1930. A little before my time, I hasten to add. I never met her, but I dare say she was a lovely woman. However, looking at her in this photo, she appears quite stern and I dread to think what she would have done to any naughty boys she found shop lifting."

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be caught filching something from her shop. She looks as if you could give an ear a generous tug to drive her point home.......I can hear her telling her offender "There will be no pilfering in my shop! Now off with you!" and sends said offender out the door. Maybe she even had a baseball bat hidden away somewhere handy for the especially naughty ones...

Mrs B's Daughter is a Miss Apron Goddess

Hi Apron Goddesses!

This Miss Apron Goddess is Mrs. B's daughter. And if you don't know who Mrs. B is, she holds the position of head domestic witch at Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom.

Mrs. B wrote, "I've really been working with Miss M. to get her cooking skills up. At 10, she's still a little nervous in the kitchen, so we haven't done as much cooking yet as much as food prep: chopping, measuring, whipping.

(But we make) Lots of cakes and brownies, lol, but not as much solid foods. She does make a mean scrambled egg!"

I thought Miss B looks adorable even though her arms say she is a little hesitant about this whole picture taking thing! But her expression is priceless and she seems proud about her apron modeling.

Another Apron Trip in the Way Back Machine

Kid with the bowl cut says to herself, "I am smiling on the outside but inside I am crying. Why does mommy hate me so?"

Teenage Mother says in her head, "My life ended when you were born! Now wear this or it's the clothes hanger for you!"

"Mom, why do I have to wear this Dorothy Hamill hair cut?"

"Do you see what I am wearing KID? Like it and keep quiet. Now, when you wear this apron everyone will know for sure you are a girl!"

Photo Circa 1977. I think I had a hair cut just like that. And I was six years old. Wait no. I still had pigtails through first grade. My mom whacked my hair off in second grade I believe.

So I was riding the trend myself. I think at least a dozen people, that I can remember, asked if I was a boy or girl. Now THAT was humiliating.

Hmmm...the fate of our chickens

Warning: The dark underbelly of aprons is rearing it's ghastly head in todays post!

There are aprons for all kinds of jobs. This here happens to be the type of apron used to process chickens. This scene will prove to be a familiar one in the near future at our property.

Here on the compound our chickens are in a sad state. They don't have any tail feathers and when they do grow some they are immediately plucked out by the other chickens. The problems were two fold with these birds. One of the varieties called the Danish Leghorn are especially busy and pecky. And apparently their feed was lacking in the proper percentage of protein. So with pesky plucky birds they figured out the way to get protein was to pick the feathers off the others and eat them (if you feel the need to see how pathetic they look, go here).

Well, it has become a nasty habit that they are unable to control even with proper protein ratios. And as a result I may have to invest in one of these kind of aprons so that I can process our sad little chickens. But we can fill our freezer with the outcome. I am not sure I will be so enthusiastic to include this apron in my collection...

The up side is that we are getting more chickens that are fully feathered and just beautiful. I can't wait to see them. These new chicken will definitely not need their own little chicken aprons!

You Know Who Suzi Is?

I would like to take a moment to officially introduce my sister-in-law, Suzi, who has been a guest author on this blog with and increasing frequency. Suzi and I have the common thread of being married to a pair of brothers. We also live on the same five-acre property, or our "compound," as I like to humorously call it. We have somewhat eccentric spouses and we regularly commiserate over our plight in life while we trade off screaming children between our houses that lie 100 feet apart.

I have documented our mutual assent or decent as the case may be into hill billy hell on my other blog Our Simple Life. As you can see by my daughter Ella's expression, the rural lifestyle and gigantic mommy sombrero I made her wear has taken it's toll on her too. However, my point is really that through this blogging journey, Suzi had been a faithful supporter and a regular commenter at OSL from it's inception.

Then I encouraged Suzi to start her own blog and she named it Savy Suzi. So the path to recreational writing had been paved with gold or maybe just tinfoil and Suzi embarked on a journey to regular keyboard exercise.

Here is my recent issue. In the last few weeks my re-admittance to the work force has decreased my available time for blogging. The fact that they actually pay me to write about plants and animals and land is somewhat amazing in it's own right, but the whip from the biological consulting world has cracked over my silly apron wearing head.

Therefore, I have been forced to admit I can not mother, work and blog with the skill of some others I have seen in the line of duty. Therefore, I have called upon the rank of my sister in mayhem to pick up the slack. This is not to say I am relinquishing my role as your intrepid Apron Goddess Hostess, but that Suzi will be joining the merriment a couple days a week!

Apron Goddess Kat

Meet Kat from The Kat's Tail. She is fairly new to this world we call blogging and has been with us since March, jumping on the "swaps" band wagon. In this picture she is wearing an apron she made for The Sassy Flirty Apron Swap hosted by Lucy and Shawnee.

Kat says "Don't I look like Heidie looking for Hansel in this adorable apron I made for a swap partner? I wanted to keep it so bad! It made me feel pretty. I love an apron that makes me feel feminine."

This lovely little apron made it's way from Kat's loving hands in Florida to a lucky recipient in Canada. Didn't she do a fabulous job?

Now meet Dilly, this is Kat's dog who was lucky enough to benefit from the linens she used for her apron swap. Kat says "Dilly is modeling her apron from bits and scraps left over from my swap partner's apron. I couldn't bear to toss any part of the vintage fabric away! This is where you are supposed to say "Aaaawwww!"

It turns out that Kat is also talented at making costumes. She has her granddaughter model the costumes she makes.

Here we have a fairy with crumpled wings and a beautiful dress that looks like it belongs on a doll. I am thinking that Kat's grandchildren must have some pretty awesome costumes when it come to Halloween.

Not only can Kat sew, but she can put together a floral arrangement. She is a Master Gardener through the University of Central Florida. She is a a Seminole Community College Floral Art Instructor and Partner of a Floral Shop called Country Club Flower Shop. To top it all off Kat is also and an Event Coordinator.

I'm exhausted looking at the things she can do and am wondering where she finds the time to do it all.
