An Old Time Apron Goddess

Meet Mary Morris, she ran a shop in Manchester (UK). This woman is the Great Great Aunt of Jane over at Jane's Aprons and Memories.

Jane is fairly new to the blogging world and I would like to be one of the first to welcome her to this crazy place where we can connect and make friends. She likes to share her memories as a child and does it in a storylike way. I personally like Memories of The Ice Cream Van. It brings back memories I have of the ice cream van as a child. So go see Jane and welcome her to bloggy land.

Jane says "I thought that the goddesses would like to see an old family photo which I found. It is of my great-great aunt, Mary Morris who ran a shop in Manchester (UK) and I think it was taken around 1930. A little before my time, I hasten to add. I never met her, but I dare say she was a lovely woman. However, looking at her in this photo, she appears quite stern and I dread to think what she would have done to any naughty boys she found shop lifting."

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be caught filching something from her shop. She looks as if you could give an ear a generous tug to drive her point home.......I can hear her telling her offender "There will be no pilfering in my shop! Now off with you!" and sends said offender out the door. Maybe she even had a baseball bat hidden away somewhere handy for the especially naughty ones...

Oh, no - I think that probably EXACTLY how I look when I'm selling my bread at market!

No kidding aside, I once had a little boy, probably 10 or 11, come up to me and say in a very commanding voice, "I am the official taste tester - I have been ordered to taste one of everything you have!" I did oblige, as I always have plenty of samples, but I heard some of the other vendors weren't too happy with him. ; )

I think I would have loved to have been a little mouse in her shop just to see how she did handle rowdy little boys. I'll bet she was firm, but sent them off with a piece of penny candy!

I'm with you. I wouldn't want to get into any trouble with her either :)

Welcome Jane!

Well done Suz! I just caught on that I can tell who wrote the post at the bottom.

Hi, I've been blogging how long now?

Now THAT is an apron! Nothing's getting through that!!! Someday, when I look a little less like a planet, I'll take a photo of the apron that my grandma had given me. I think it's from the '60's and is very sheer - a dinner party apron for sure! One that I think Ms. Mary Morris would have deemed completely worthless! :o)
