My own little troll, adorable son, likes to wear his apron when playing outside sometimes. He and his cousin were pulling weeds cause we forced them, cause they like to out in the garden.

I really like the plaid shorts combined with the tool pattern on the apron. Toss in the flower on the apron front and he is totally VOGUE!!!!

The kids like to use the hoola hoe too sometimes. I get a little bit nervous that some poor unsuspecting "good" plant is destined for decapitation. Luckily only one casualty has occurred this year.

Also here's a GENTLE REMINDER (hee hee) that you can still sign up for the giveaway sponsored by Shabby Apple!!! Or just click on the side bar to the RIGHT.

Nothing Butt Aprons

Imagine walking down the street when you come across naked apron wearing women.

LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics employees stage a protest to urge shoppers to purchase products that are free of packaging. Their European counterparts did this stunt already, but little did we know they'd bring it to the States! LUSH promotes their products by wearing nothing but an apron. I am sure they caused quite a stir in Philadelphia. I know my hubby would be right there to see what all the hullabaloo was about. And he would certainly enjoy the view....but then again what man wouldn't?

Mooove Over Apron Goddesses!!!

All past apron goddesses need to moooove out of the way since this Apron Goddess is wearing a Julia-Holstein Special! Yes, I made this apron for Sara at the Handy Hooker and she in turn gave it to her friend Debbie, pictured here.

Sara wrote, "Here is Debbie feeding one of her Holstein feeder calves in the apron you made."

Debbie said, "Everyone should wear an apron to feed calves!"

Sara explained, "Debbie is a Quaker, married to a farmer and has two grown kids, two grandsons, two golden retrievers, and ever changing number of Holsteins on the farm. She is quirky, fun and loves to laugh. Her and I have been friends since 1996 and I just love her to pieces.

Oh and Debbie assures me she is wearing shorts under the apron. Her husband, R.B., suggested the shirt, but he forgot to mention that the shorts were hidden when he took the picture. Debbie says the length of the apron is perfect for her after church meal preparation, since it covers the skirt completely."

Well that about sums it up! Now I know that there are three of my trademark Holstein Cow Aprons being worn out there by: Me, Pooba and Debbie! How cool is that?

Quick and Easy Aprons

How Cute is This?

Yeah, I thought so too. Someone was thinking when they took these adorable children on a field trip to what looks like a restaurant or bakery. This has to be the quickest and easiest apron ever made in the history of all aprons. It looks as if someone has crafted an apron out of a garbage bag.

Instructions:
Cut hole out of bottom of bag for head
Cut holes on the sides for arms
Put on child
Top with Chef's Hat
Take them on a tour
Let them get their hands dirty

Sounds like a recipe for a lot of fun for any child who wants to help out in the kitchen. So for all you parents and grandparents who don't have an apron for your child, grab a bag and have some fun creating in the kitchen!

Grandmother's Aprons are Cherished and Worn!

Wanting to win an apron, Gramee sent in a few photos of her daughter showing off Grandmother's apron for extra credit.

She wrote,"This was my grandmothers apron. I have a couple of aprons of my grandmothers. This is the most unique and interesting. Also, this is my oldest daughter being my apron model!"

Gramme also wrote that unfortunately, "She (her grandmother) is in a care center with Alzheimer's. We hope we will have her around for a few more years."

Here is a close up with some further details of the patches of fabric that were used to construct this apron. The wrap around style ties in the back but there is no part of your front that would become splattered with this great coverage.

Gramee invites those who come for a visit to, "Come sit on my porch," at her blog called appropriately Gramee's Portch.

Julie is an Apron Goddess

Good Day Ladies (and Gents)! Meet Julie from Cakes and Kids. She is a lover of cakes and kids, hence the name of her blog (not necessarily in that order). Not only does she have a blog to show off her wonderful creations, but she also has a web site where you can find tips, themes, supplies, recipes, etc. in order to make your friends and family some fun cakes. Her web site is also called Cakes and Kids, you can find it at www.cakesandkids.com.

Julie says "From one busy Mom to another, I wondered if your readers might like to hear about my website www.cakesandkids.com. With the economy the way it is, many Moms are trying to save some money and one way to do that is to make your own homemade kids' cakes. My site is designed to help Moms do just that. I feature ideas, tips, photos, recipes, supplies as well as party ideas and contests."

This cake was made by Julie for her 3 year old daughter. As you can see it is a beautiful Princess Cake made with a lovely tiara, pretty ribbon, petite blossoms, and some very cute cut outs of flowers, hearts, and butterflies. Very apropos for a 3 year old princess. Julie says "My little girl is thrilled with her pretty pink and purple cake and the look on her face definitely makes all the effort worthwhile :)" She even has a simple recipe to make the fondant. You can find that HERE.

I don't know about you, but I will be using Julie's tips, recipes, etc. sooner rather than later. Trevor is turning 7 next month and is requesting a Penguine cake. Should be fun! Julie has just made my life easier, I now have some guidance and a great reference to fall back on. Julie, you are a CAKE STAR! Great ideas for those of us who feel the crunch of the economy. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us!

So head on over to Julie's and see what you can see. Give her a big "Hello" and don't forget to take some awesome cake tips home with you. Thanks Julie, you are an Apron Goddess who certainly makes her simple green apron work hard.

Jr. Apron God is a Little Cutie

Just a brief update: My hard drive crashed on my power computer and I have limited computer time. Boooo hoo for me. So I will likely be unable to keep up the pounding pace of apron posts that I normally do. You can all play a miniature violin for me now.

BUT I had this post pre-prepared!

This lil' wisp of Apron God is Henry, adorable son of Kim at The Ungourmet. Wielding the rolling pin with great skill Henry helps his mom in the kitchen preparing all of her awesome creations. I bet he is a great cookie decorator and cupcake artist.

He is wearing his custom made apron that his mom crafted just for him. I am glad to see another little boy who is happy about cooking!

Since Kim has begun a new venture called The Cupcake Academy, I am thinking Henry has been an all too willing guinea pig in the creation side of the cupcakes.

Cupcakes have taken a front row seat around the desert world lately and I can not believe how fancy and delicious they have become. We even have a bakery in our little town that opened up selling only these dainty delicacies. Well, the frosting piled on top is not always so discrete.

Kim's Cupcake Academy is a fabulous idea and taking the party to the kids to have them decorate their own treats can only result in happy smiles and kids with a sugar high. And that's what I call a good party.

With cupcake selections including Peanut Butter Chocolate, Tye-Dyed, Red Velvet, Chocolate Chocolate Chip and Hula Cupcakes Kim has provided her clients with a broad selection for their parties.

Go ahead and check out the great recipes at Kim's main site The Ungourmet or see what's cooking at The Cupcake Academy! Either way you just can't go wrong with Kim's cooking and baking which is not very ungourmet...

Lunchtime Apron Gods

Time to drag out some men in aprons again. Just a little something to force you to open your eyes really wide on an early Saturday morning and say, "Oh my!"

We have to keep the apron variety good and try to bring some humor in aprons for our female readers, right??

Can you imagine this apron wearing pair showing up for lunch?

It would certainly make for an entertaining dining experience! What would make it even better is if they cooked, served, and cleaned up after the meal was over.

All I ask is that they make sure my kids are at school before they bring me lunch... What would the kids say if they saw these guys.

Well, considering they like to run around in their underwear still they'd probably not think too much.

And what would the husband say??? Uhhhhh?

Let's hope none of my girlfriends send these black apron wearing guys over as a practical joke. Really.

Grab Your Apron It's Time for Zucchini Bread

With summer in full swing around our place, we have zucchini's the size of small mountains at our property. These are Suzi's plants, mine are not so impressive yet. So I took pictures of hers since they're kicked into high gear. Mine are a month behind in size, but are making squash so I can't complain.

I think zucchini squash is the one garden vegetable that EVERYBODY can grow so long as they water their plants. Here is the view from the deep and dark interior of the crook-neck squash zucchini! In about three days we are going to be inundated with approximately 57 fruit for which something must be done.

Oh and here's the ubiquitous green zucchini squash which is notorious for going from an ity bitty fruit to something vulgar over night. Now have you ever put a bunch of overgrown squash on somebody's porch, rang the doorbell, and ran away as a joke? Me either, but it sure would be funny to have a hidden camera to get the poor recipients reaction.

And the pile of resultant squash on my kitchen counter. Guess what we ate for our veggie tonight. Yep, steamed and lightly seasoned squash is now mandatory eating. Gathering these little squash in your apron skirt is a nice way to carry these veggies back to the house.

And for dessert the universally loved zucchini bread. I could almost eat a loaf my self. I won't pretend to have reinvented the wheel with this recipe. There are so many good variations out there an apron wearing chef could easily find on one the internet. I found mine here.

And can you see the healthy little specks of green in here? Mmmm good. I make the bread with either yellow or green zucs. No one is the wiser. Now since I know more than half of you must have zucchini squash plants growing in your back yard, don't you think it's time to get your apron on and baked something?

And don't forget to enter the apron giveaways! They are posted in the upper right column...

Apron Goddess Val

Say Hello to Val!

Val has a fun little blog called Yarni Gras! She shows us all little snippets of her family and daily life, but also shows her talents with sewing. If you look very closely you can see the many masks on Val's apron. It is very colorful and very festive. Val says "Here I am in an apron.....! I whipped this one up for Mardi Gras.....it is from the "A is for Aprons" book."

She has joined a group called The Toy Society. This is made up of wonderful people from all over the world who make toys and leave them with a little note. The person to find it is to take it home with them. People have been known to leave toys at Children's Hospitals, summer festivals, hanging in trees, etc.

This cute little guy was made with love by Val for one of The Toy Society drops. He is a cute little snake. To get a better look at him go here. It appears Val and her family left the guy hanging on a sign near the Reptile House. I hope he found a good home. She also recently joined a group called Craft Hope, which is similar to The Toy Society, but items made are made specifically for children. The items "dropped" are sent to a central location where a population of children are in need of basic items.

Val also is the hostess of apron swaps. Right now, she has one with the theme "Momma Mia." She says "Do you love the movie "MAMA MIA!"? I can't get enough of it....the characters, the music, the costumes, the location, the foo-foo drinks, the summer colors, the laughter, the tears, the dancing and the FABRICS!!!!!!" This particular swap is closed, but check in on her once in a while to see what her next swap theme will be.

Go give a shout out to Val!

Pooba Is An Apron Goddess, But We Knew That Already...

Who is this worried woman wearing a red bandanna and Holstein apron? And why is she worried? Is it the potential that her nails will be ruined among the dirt? Will her ability to crunch accounting numbers on the calculator be hindered by this kind of manual labor? Is it the neighbors staring out the window at her svelte figure?

Hmmmm.... it's difficult to say.

Well I will reveal that this blond, wearing her gardening apron, is none other than Grand Pooba. She won this apron a few months ago and claims to wear it while gardening at her suburban home.

It seems this apron lacks the requisite dirt and debris on the surface. But I am going to take Pooba's word that she is using this for gardening not washing Dozer her gigantic dog. Although I suppose washing the family pet would be an appropriate use for an apron... I guess.

Well to see what's really going on you should visit Grand Pooba and demand to see more of the gardening apron in action.

Wait... are those newly planted flowers in the background? Yep!

Pink and White Reversible Apron Giveaway from Aprons by Julie

Did you all survive the 4th of July weekend?? Suffering from post-holiday stress syndrome? Well here's something to bring you out of your funk and get you back into the summer fun.

This week Aprons by Julie is giving away this 1951 remake of "The Elizabeth" which is a reversible deep pink and white apron with a cute, cute, cute high waste, extra long ties and a coffee cup motif! The words "I love you a latte" float all over the white fabric.

Now for a little bit about owner Julie... In 1995, Julie began making aprons for her family and friends. As people began to see firsthand her craftsmanship and unique style the demand for Julie's aprons soared! With a great response from family and buyers, Julie decided to start designing and making these beautiful aprons full time. She began to sell her aprons to local boutiques, cook-shops and restaurants in the Salt Lake area of Utah.

Julie said, "For me sewing has always been a hobby anything that allows me to be creative. My mother was a master seamstress, she taught me how to make anything with or without a pattern. Personally I like starting with patterns then I alter to fit my needs or ideas. This saves me a lot of time. I have always been very detail oriented striving for quality."

Now if you aren't convinced by now how nice the aprons from Aprons by Julie are, you will have to go an look at them yourself!!

To enter in the giveaway for Aprons by Julie visit her online store or her Etsy site and come back and leave a comment about your favorite one. An Ode to Independence Day

Happy 4th of July

I love fireworks!

I love the quiet anticipation of the first exploding shell.

I love sight of bursting colors across a darkened sky.

I love the gently drift of shadowy smoke as it sinks in the cooling night air.

I love the smell of burnt fireworks which leave your nostrils singed.

I love the wistful feeling of loss when the bright lights fade and we slowly leave for home.

I love the freedom of expression and choice that we have on American soil.

I love the feeling of independence that is our right in the United States.

I hope you feel it too.

The Pre-Game Analysis

The fresh brewed iced tea was prepared and readied for the thirsty...

The vat of macaroni salad was chillin' in the fridge waiting to make it's debut.

Two freshly baked apple pies stood at the sidelines waiting for their call into the game.

THE HORDE THAT COMETH SHALL BE FED!!

And while this food preparation was in play...

This fashion nightmare (or shall I call her a "fashion icon") was roaming our property.

Have a great 4th of July!
