Just Horsing Around with Aprons Americana

I don't usually make it a habit to throw myself into the daily spotlight at TAG, but this week will be a notable exception. You must forgive this indulgence, since it will not happen again for a long time. Of that I can assure you.

I happened to receive a little white package in the mail today. Turns out it was a special surprise from Aprons Americana!!! That horse print I was oogling over on Monday was real and in my very own hands. I simply did what every normal woman does when she gets something new... I put it on.

Now this apron is one I can cover in filth and never feel guilty. It's not one of those prissy primadonna aprons for real girly-girls, but it's not supposed to be. These are get down and dirty with no holds barred aprons.

Aprons Americana is not selling those sexy little numbers you wear to peak your husbands interest... These are functional aprons for your everyday work! I really would not wear my pink floral apron out to the barn. What would the horses think?

When I have to wear white clothes for horse shows, I will put this apron on in between rides. Yes, the idiots who run the dressage competitions mandate buttoned white shirts with stock ties and sparkling white breeches. You are privileged to wear a dark colored jacket over all of that. Their kindness knows no bounds...

So the giveaway for Aprons Americana ends on Saturday at midnight. Be sure to get your entry in before the deadline! Go choose your favorite pattern and leave me a comment here. If your lucky number comes up in the random drawing you win the apron fabric pattern of your choice.

And here is a parting picture of the torturous clothing we must wear for dressage shows... Really, I hate the "uniform." It looks tidy but I am always sweating my butt off in that dreadful jacket.

By the way, my horses have been standing around doing nothing for days now since it been raining and raining in California. I will be happy to get back to work with them again. Meanwhile, I will wear my apron and wait out the storms!

The dressage dress code prompted me at the tender young age of 12 to BEG my mom NEVER to have to do annother show. I promised to muck stalls, pick hoves, float teeth if I had to, if only I could just do gymcana and team penning the rest of my life. It worked! I tossed that english crud, went western and never looked back... well until I went riding in Tuscany this summer and couldn't remember my English seat for a good half an hour, all the while the DH (citified no horse riding maroon) quipping "I thought you used to own horses, weren't you some hot shot rider?!".. it comes back though, like riding a bike.. or horse HA! Bah with the not featuring you! You are the lead Goddess woman, own it!

I love the barn apron! Of course, a frilly one would be off course with the horses, but a barn apron is good. I use one when grooming my dogs for when I show, never thought to wear one when grooming the horses! Thanks for the idea!

You never cease to amaze me! Your horses are just beautiful! That apron is perfect for the barn isn't?

When my friends in Santa Barbara arranged a private interview for me with JULIA CHILD(!), I immediately set upon sewing up an apron for her. A half apron, the gathered hem and pocket were embellished with a selection of coordinating vintage hankies. Upon her unwrapping the beribboned package and unfolding my gift, she sweetly handed it back to me, saying "Oh, dearie, dainty doesn't do in the kitchen." Thank goodness I had a back up - a bottle of fine champagne, which she unwrapped and did not return! Anyway, my lesson of that day was domestic armor and domesti-chic have their place in our lives; just not to be tie on at the same time.

Tie One On..an apron, of course!

Your horses are beautiful...If you wore your floral apron out to the barn though they might get the wrong idea about it and try to consume it....Love the apron you have for "horsin'" around.

I never understood the horse show uniform, especially in the southern California summers...brutal! I guess it is tradition. It is hard to be "athletic" when you can hardly move. At least they are starting to design a bit of stretch into the shirts and jackets now.

cute apron, the horse pattern is my favorite too!
